Andrew Scott

Andrew Scott, poet, (1757 - 1839) was a farm worker who was born in the village. Written in the local Border dialect, his descriptive powers belied his lack of formal education and his published collection was so popular it ran to a second edition. He is buried in Bowden Churchyard.
A collection of sixteen of his poems was published by Walter Elliott in 1986.
