Minutes of Newtown St Boswells & District Flower Show AGM

NEWTOWN ST BOSWELLS AND DISTRICT FLOWER SHOW A.G.M.
HELD ON WEDNESDAY 25th OCTOBER 2006 IN THE COMMUNITY CENTRE, NEWTOWN ST BOSWELLS

PRESENT: Marlyn McCall; Shenagh Ellershaw; Cliff Ellershaw; Janet Irons; Pam Gordon; Jan McGibbon (new member)

APOLOGIES: There were none.

FINANCIAL REPORT: Teas, Raffle and entrance money were all up It was agreed that the Show had been more of a success at St. Boswells – more people through the door.
Cliff suggested that he take the £2000 (which was a legacy, not to be used but to be invested for interest) out of the Bank and invest it in an account paying higher interest. This was agreed.
The adoption of the financial report was moved by Marlyn, seconded by Janet.

ELECTION OF OFFICE-BEARERS:

Marlyn : as Chairperson
Shenagh: as Secretary
Cliff : as Treasurer
Janet : as Show Convenor
Christine: as Vice-Chairperson were unanimously re-elected.

NEXT YEAR’S SHOW: Discussion took place around the venue. It was agreed that Bowden Hall did not give the space we needed. It was agreed that it had been far easier to set up and clear down the show in St. Boswells, with no equipment to shift around before and after. Also, whilst we did tidy up behind ourselves, the rent of the hall included cleaning. The help given by the Hall Committee was invaluable. Given the shortage of Committee members tonight, it was felt that we would need that help again, and it was agreed to go back to St. Boswells Hall next year.

We were disappointed that more children had not brought back their Geranium plants. We felt if the Show was held after the schools went back, it would help.Janet agreed to find out the date of Selkirk Show for next year, to see if we could be a week later. (Since the meeting I have realised that P7 children will have gone to Earlston High, so no wonder they didn't bother - ? try again next year with P6.)

It was agreed to have a meeting to decide the Schedule on Wednesday 6th December in the Community Centre at 7.30 pm.

Note from Shenagh When I got home there was a phone message from Kath Young to say she had gone to the Community Wing, where she found Margaret Clyde. Margaret didn’t seem to think about the Centre! I rang her back and will send her Minutes. Also, I have to apologise for the length of time it has taken me to do the Minutes, my computer broke down and was away for repair for over a week.
