Newtown & District Horticultural Society - Minutes of 5th April 2005
MINUTE OF THE MEETING OF TUESDAY 5th April, 2005 PRESENT: Marlyn, Shenagh, Cliff, Jean, Isobel, Margaret, Christine and Wilma APOLOGIES: Pam and Nick Matters arising from the last Minute : Shenagh reported that she had contacted Alastair Hewat, who was delighted to be asked to present the Cups on Show day. Treasurer: Cliff reported that he had at last received the bank interest for the last year and 9 months; Gross £93.73 – tax £19.35 – net £77.38. The bank asked if we always paid interest and suggested we did not need to –IF we could provide a copy of the Constitution to prove we are not a profit-making organisation. Christine, being the oldest and longest serving member had never seen one. Not surprisingly as we are now going to hold the 121st show, there will be no founder members around. Do we then need to draw one up? Discuss when all Committee are available. Cliff said the interest rate was poor anyway and asked should we change to Alliance and Leicester who pay at least 3 times more. Committee asked Cliff to take this forward. Collecting Sponsor Money: Shenagh will ask Nancy Finlay to do Eildon and Nancy Inglis to do Monksford. Pam to do Sprouston Rd and Cotts and part of Glenburn while Christine does the other part. Cliff & Shenagh do Tweedside Rd and Margaret Park Cres and Sergeants Park. Marlyn will try to do Whitefield. Cliff will provide receipt books and also do advert A/C slips. Cliff also suggested that we send out schedules to all exhibitors, not just Cup Winners, with a letter to draw their attention to the fact that we had increased prize money. AGREED – Wilma to do letter. Shenagh said it would only be about 20 extra stamps. Discussion took place on asking for extra helpers to set up and dismantle. Could Pam get anyone from the Community Centre? Shenagh has a couple of people to ask. Isobel will ask her neighbour again. MARLYN said she would draw up a protocol for going round with the judges. Alastair Hewat would also draw the raffle. MALCOLM to be asked to again bring the PA system. It was agreed to obtain a Garden Centre voucher as a Thank You to Alastair. MARLYN also suggested that she would ask the Schools at Newtown and St, Boswells to design a poster for the Show. AGREED. Isobel said that the Community Wing bookings are now being dealt with at Easter Langlee school as Sarah was now on long-term sick leave. That made us concerned about the Show booking. Isobel, Jean and Christine are to attend a Wing meeting on Weds. 6th April and will check our booking then Shenagh will draw up a timetable for the Show weekend with jobs allocated. It was agreed that another meeting would be needed before the Show and this was set for WEDNESDAY 29th JUNE 2005 at 7.30.pm.in the Community Centre.
