Newtown & District Horticultural Association - Minute of Meeting of 24th May 2006

MINUTE OF THE MEETING HELD IN THE COMMUNITY CENTRE, NEWTOWN ON WEDNESDAY 24th MAY 2006 at 7.30 pm.

PRESENT: Marlyn, Shenagh Cliff, Janet, Christine, Margaret

APOLOGIES: Nick, Pam, Malcolm, Jean and Isobel. Shenagh reported that when she had called to remind Jean of the meeting, she discovered that Isobel was quite unwell, and that Jean had taken on being one of her Carers. Neither would be available to work at the Show. Margaret is also waiting for an operation, and will only be able to help in such as taking the money at the door. Shenagh had attended a meeting of St. Boswells Village Hall Committee last night and had told them of the problem. The Committee had been very supportive and had promised lots of help for the Show.

FROM LAST MINUTES: Marlyn reported that all had gone well with the Printers to start with, she had got the proof to read and returned it. She had then been unwell for a while, and when recovered realised that the Schedules had not been delivered. When she contacted Meigle, they had lost the proof. It turned up, but they were then very busy with Rugby 7’s programmes, and she had only got them last week. Most had been posted out. Shenagh and Cliff took those for the quilters via Nancy Finlay, Vision 20/20 and the Dryburgh Arms to deliver.

Marlyn also reported that her meeting with the previous organisers of the best garden competitions in St. Boswells and Newtown had gone well. Bowden had not had a competition, but had decided to join in. There will be a cup and £50 prize money from St. Boswells CC and Bowden CC and also from Newtown CC to cover both the village and Eildon. All to be judged at the beginning of August and presented at the Flower Show.

SPONSORS: Shenagh pointed out that it would be quite unfair to only cover Newtown since the Show was being held in St. Boswells. Christine will do her usual in Glenburn, Shenagh & Cliff Tweedsyde Road, ask Nancy Finlay to do Eildon again and Nancy Inglis to do Monksford. Could Pam perhaps do Margaret's area? Marlyn will do the Croft and the Green in St. Boswells, and Shenagh and Cliff Main Street, and Janet would do the new estate in Jenny Moore’s Road.(Mention was not made of Bowden – does anybody know anyone who might be asked to do it?)

LUNCHES: --- for the Judges on the Show day were discussed. Marlyn agreed to ask if they could put on a cheap lunch at the Buccleuch. If not the choice would be to go back to Newtown to the Dryburgh or provide it ourselves. Shenagh pointed out that we all had enough to do on the day.

DATE OF NEXT MEETING: WEDNESDAY 28th JUNE 2006 at 7.30pm in the COMMUNITY CENTRE.
